Dan Wheldon's Final Tweets

The Twitterverse is paying tribute to race car driver Dan Wheldon, who died today when his car was involved in a car wreck at the Indy 300 in Las Vegas. Dan was the top trending Twitter topic after news broke of his passing.

It turns out that Dan Wheldon was an active tweeter himself. His final tweet was posted shortly before the race. It was simply "Green!!!"

Hours earlier on Sunday, he tweeted "Big day today, $5,000,000.00 at stake!!! Heading to the track." He also tweeted to a friend. " Hope to catch up tomorrow."

When one of his Twitter followers joked, "Hey Dan Wheldon, pay each driver 20k to pull over, pay 2nd place 40k and 1st 50k.... You'll still make money and so will everyone else!," Dan tweeted back, " That's not the way to win my man!!!"

Hope Solo is just one the celebs who tweeted about Dan after his death. "My heart hurts deeply for Dan Wheldon and his family," she wrote. "An amazing individual who inspired me the moment we met.RIP Dan. Your legacy lives on."
