2014 MTV Video Music Awards Playlist

MTV Video Music AwardAn MTV Video Music Award is one of the most prestigious awards an artist can receive. Commonly referred to simply as VMA, the cable channel MTV presents this award in honor of the best music videos of the year. Originally, the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony was supposed to be an alternative to the awards received at the Grammys in the video category but it is now its own individual award ceremony followed by millions of fans across the globe.

Although the MTV awards ceremony is watched by older adults, it has a huge drawing amongst teenagers and young adults. The statue that recipients receive is an astronaut on the moon, something conceived by Manhattan Design who also designed the original MTV logo.

This annual ceremony is televised at the end of the summer, typically in late August to mid-September. Broadcast on MTV, the first ceremony was held in 1984 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. In addition to this still being one of the prime locations, the ceremony is also held in Los Angeles, although it has been hosted in both Las Vegas and Miami.

Last year’s MTVs left many people shocked after Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball” performance and while insiders expect this year to be amazing, they hope things will be relatively calmer. This year, there are 54 nominees, with none other than Beyonce being at the head of the pack. In fact, she is being nominated for multiple videos to include three of her mega hits “Pretty Hurts”, “Drunk in Love”, and “Partition”.

Coming in behind Beyonce is Eminem who has a total of seven nominations for videos like “Rap God” and “The Monster”. One of this year’s surprises is Iggy Azalea. Not only is she a newcomer but nominations for her videos, “Problem” and “Fancy” put her in third place.

For the coveted Video of the Year category, critics expect Pharrell to become the proud recipient. However, even though he has a good chance of winning, his video “Happy” has some stiff competition with Cyrus for “Wrecking Ball”, Sia for “Chandelier”, and Beyonce.

Nominees for the 2014 MTV Music Video Awards’ Best Hip Hop Video include Drake, Childish Gambino, Kayne West, Wiz Khalifa, and Eminem. Best Male Video nominees are Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Pharrell Williams, Eminem, and Sam Smith and for Best Female Video, Lorde, Katy Paarry, Beyonce, Arianna Grande, and Iggy Azalea.

Of course, with additional categories of Best Pop Video, Best Rock Video, Artist to Watch, Best Collaboration, MTV Clubland Award, Best Video with a Social Message, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Visual Effects, this will be rewards ceremony will be smoking hot.
