Brittany Murphy Dad Sues Mother, Coroner’s Office, & LAPD

brittany-murphyFor years, the late Brittany Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, has been outraged over his daughter’s suspicious death but now, the scheduled release of an unauthorized and inaccurate movie about her life. The actress, age 32, died on December 20, 2009 from what coroner’s reported was pneumonia, coupled with iron-deficiency anemia and intoxication associated with several prescription drugs.

However, Bertolotti has maintained the position that there was something else involved with his daughter’s death. What fuels his suspicions and outrage more is the fact that Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, was found dead on May 23, 2010, in the home where she died. Just like Murphy, the cause of death was ruled pneumonia and anemia.

Mold in the home where the couple died was suspected but an inspection two months prior to Murphy’s death showed it to be “safe”. Convinced that mold was the cause of both Murphy and Monjack’s deaths, Murphy’s mother, Sharon, filed a malpractice lawsuit against the attorneys who represented her in a settlement against the home’s builders.

To gain access to hair samples of Murphy for an independent chemical analysis, Bertolotti sued the LA County Coroner’s Office in the summer of 2012. However, after not following up on initial claims and failing to make court appearances, the suit was dismissed by a judge.

Bertolotti went on to file yet another unsuccessful lawsuit but after having Murphy’s hair analyzed, the lab reported high levels of metals, evidence leading to deliberate poisoning. Recently, Bertolotti has continued his fight to uncover the truth about why his daughter died.

On a new legal crusade, he has filed lawsuits against the mother, Sharon Murphy for wrongful death, slander, and libel and defamation of character, as well as lawsuits against the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office and the Los Angeles Police Department, claiming they botched the investigation into his daughter’s early death.

Both Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack were living in the same home with Sharon at the time of their deaths, which adds to speculation. Because of this, Bertolotti believes Sharon was involved or knows more than she is telling.

The other issue is that Bertolotti is unhappy with the way Lifetime Network portrayed his daughter in the upcoming made-for-television movie titled “The Brittany Murphy Story”. If executives proceed in releasing the movie, he plans to sue the network, as well as several other media outlets.
