Cabaret’s Michelle Williams being Replaced by Emma Stone

emma-stoneOne of the hottest Broadway plays is changing. Cabaret’s Sally Bowles character currently played by Michelle Williams will be played by Emma Stone starting in November 2014.

According to insiders, Stone was the first choice but because of scheduling conflicts while filming the Amazing Spider-Man, it was offered to Williams instead. However, in an effort to recover their investment and extend the show, producers decided a change was necessary.

Cabaret is a play based on a Christopher Isherwood book about a seedy 1930s nightclub located in Berlin Germany. In this production, a young English performer starts a relationship with an American writer while at the same time, an ambitious Master of Ceremonies commands action at his club, the Kit Kat Klub.

Although Williams plays her role well, producers feel that Stone is a much better match for the character. Just 25 years old, Stone already has an impressive resume having starred in major roles like Zombieland, Paper Man, Easy A, The Help, and the Amazing Spider-Man, among others.

If all goes as planned and thanks to a massive campaign to help spread the word, producers feel confident Cabaret will extend beyond the show’s ending date of January 15, 2015.
