“Honey Boo Boo”: Mama June and Sugar Bear Separate

Honey Boo BooWhile not everyone appreciates the dysfunction seen on TLC’s television show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”, many do and for that reason, the show’s popularity continues to soar. Alana Thompson “Honey Boo Boo” first rose to fame on the series “Toddlers & Tiaras”, another TLC show.

The child’s natural humor and unbelievable antics captured audiences around the country. In addition to Alana, who was six years old when the first season aired, the show features other members of her family to include parents June “Mama June” Shannon, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, as well as siblings Lauryn (Pumpkin), Jessica (Chubbs), and Anna (Chickadee), along with Kaitlyn born to Asenna who appeared only in the first season finale.

After the first season of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”, a second season debuted in 2013, followed up by a 12-episode third season being announced last September. While season four of this show finished strong, the same cannot be true for the marriage of Mama June and Sugar Bear.

Reportedly, Mama June caught her husband searching through women’s profiles on several online dating sites and in fact, he had completed his own profiles for several of those. In one particular profile on Plentyoffish.com, Sugar Bear says he loves to hunt, fish, and go four-wheeling.

Convinced that her husband has done much more than share his likes with single women, the two have separated. According to an insider, Mama June is so serious about the separation that she has taken off her wedding ring (even though the couple is not legally married).

To be closer to her side of the family, sources state that Mama June plans to take the kids and move out of the couple’s home. Because of this real life drama that reaches far beyond the drama on the show, producers of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” are scrambling to figure out how to handle things from a professional standpoint.

In a statement to a popular social media site, Mama June along with her “husband” Sugar Bear said they have made a decision to spend some time apart so they can figure out things in the relationship. The couple adds that they are taking things one day at a time and that no matter what ultimately happens between the two of them, their girls will remain the number one priority.

According to TLC, in the wake of the separation, Sugar Bear will not be cut from the show. After all, Sugar Bear is Alana’s father and with her being the star of the show, it would be ridiculous and uncomfortable for him to be excluded from filming. Instead, producers of the show believe they can weave the separation storyline into the upcoming season, possibly boosting already sound ratings.

However, the primary focus of TLC executives is to avoid causing any emotional harm to the children. Filming the breakup of parents can be devastating, something the public witnessed with the breakup of John and Kate Gosselin from John & Kate Makes Eight. TLC wants to avoid another implosion and to accomplish that goal they plan to spotlight Mama June more on the show, now as a newly single woman opposed to someone being an emotional wreck.
