Miranda Lambert Named ACM Merle Haggard Spirit AwardMiranda Lambert, who is an American country music singer and songwriter, will receive the inaugural Merle Haggard Spirit Award during the 10th Annual ACM Honors in Nashville, Tenn on August 30, 2016 at The Ryman, and debut will air on Friday, September 9 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

According to the Academy of Country Music, the new award honors uncompromising artists in the spirit of Merle Haggard, while acknowledging a man who has figured prominently in ACM history.

ACM EVP/Managing Director Tiffany Moon said, “Merle was an integral part of the Academy’s history, and it was important to us that we honor his legacy. We couldn’t imagine anyone better suited to receive the first ever ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award than Miranda.”

Lady Antebellum will host the 10th Annual ACM Honors and the evening is dedicated to off-camera category winners from the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards. Glen Campbell is also going to honor ACM Career Achievement Award. The event will feature performances by Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Dan + Shay, Miranda Lambert, Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Cam, Maren Morris, Blake Shelton, Cole Swindell, Keith Urban, Chris Young, Alicia Keys.

All She Wrote song writer Ross Copperman will be honored as Songwriter of the Year.

The Academy of Country Music Awards were started from 1966 and this was the first country music awards program. At first ABC televised the Awards in 1972 then NBC had taken the program. Finally, CBS has taken the televised authority of the awards.

The most prestigious awards of the The Academy of Country Music Awards are “Artist of the Decade” and “Entertainer of the Year” and ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award is the new one which is approved by the ACM Special Awards Panel and voted on by the ACM Board.
