Nicki Minaj’s brother found guilty in child rape trial facing up to life in prison

Jelani MarajNicki Minaj’s brother Jelani Maraj, 38, has been convicted of repeatedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter at his Long Island home.

The 38-year-old faces up to life in prison after the jurors delivered their judgment in Jelani Maraj’s trial. The rapper’s brother didn’t appear to react when the judgment was announced in a Nassau County courtroom. His lawyer says he plans to appeal against the judgment.

The lawyer contended the rape allegations were concocted by the girl’s mother as part of a scheme to get Nicki Minaj to pay the family $25 million in hush money, but in closing arguments on Monday Emma Slane, the Nassau County Assistant District Attorney, called that claim “absolute absurdity.”

The girl testified for DNA evidence about sexual assaults. She said it happened as frequently as four times a week and sometimes twice a day when they were alone in the house. Prosecutors rescued DNA evidence from the girl’s pants and it was surely linked to Maraj.

District Attorney Madeline Singas said, “We hope that today’s verdict will help the family in the healing process and that it will close this terrible chapter in their lives.”

The girl’s, now 14, mother repudiated the allegations of the Maraj’s lawyer. Moreover, the victim’s younger brother, who is witnessed one assault, also testified at the trial.

Maraj was arrested in December 2015 and then he was accused of predatory sexual assault with the child. Finally, he is found guilty following a child and endangering the welfare of a child on November 9.

Jelani Maraj faces 15 years up to life in prison.
