Sandra Bullock Highest Paid Actress – $51 Million

sandra-bullockAlthough Sandra Bullock didn’t get any Academy Awards for her film “Gravity,” the film did help her top the Forbes’ list of highest earning actresses. She leads the list with a generous $51 million.

The film itself also beat expectations because many did not think it would bring in much revenue since it essentially features Bullock floating in space alone for 90 minutes. But the film ended up being one of the highest grossing movies in 2013 and brought in a total of $716 billion globally.

Jennifer Lawrence earned second place with $34 million in earnings, although Forbes pointed out that she made less than $1 million upfront for the first “Hunger Games” film. But because of the success of the franchise, she is now in a great position to get bigger profits on future films and a backend share.

Jennifer Aniston can largely thank “Friends” reruns for her $31 million and third place spot, as well as her products endorsements like with Aveeno. Her strategy of foregoing upfront pay for small budget films in exchange for part of the profits also helped to boost her earnings. Aniston is set to be in “Horrible Bosses 2”, coming out in November.

Although Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t make even close to her co-star Robert Downey Jr, her performance in “Iron Man 3” did earn her the fourth spot on the Forbes list. She also has endorsements for Hugo Boss and Max Factor.

Rounding out the top five is a tie with $18 million each for Cameron Diaz and Angelina Jolie.  Jolie appears to have earned less since the list only credits her upfront payment for the Disney piece “Maleficient.” Her profit earnings for the film that has brought in more than $700 million so far will be included in the list for next year.

But despite the success of Hollywood’s leading ladies, it does bring into stark contrast just how much less they are earning than their male counterparts. The top ten actresses, according to Forbes, brought in a total of $226 million, when just half of the actors’ listed had a combined $419 million. To compile the list, Forbes met with producers, lawyers, agents, and other figures in the industry to calculate the earnings from June 2013 and June 2014.
